What is CAIN?

CAIN is a roleplaying game (RPG) designed by Tom Bloom and released in 2024.

One of my friends described it as "JJK with biblical and eldritch imagery" and he's not wrong! For its themes, CAIN takes inspiration from media such as Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Neon Genesis Evangelion. You play exorcists with psychic powers under the mysterious organization CAIN, which seeks to destroy supernatural monsters called SINS.

When my friends and I read the rulebook, I was instantly hooked by CAIN! I couldn't wait to play, so I took a template by the talented Loren, webmaster of ribo.zone, and made this page for my CAIN characters. You're welcome to take inspiration from them and I hope you can share your CAIN characters with me too! The template used below is based on my friends' backstories.

Case File

XID: X-101956
Observed Blasphemy: Palace
Category: 1

The subject's grandfather, Octavio Telesforo “Augustus” Aguinaldo, was the leader of a doomsday cult based in the Philippines. According to reports, he intended to unleash an apocalypse that would cleanse the world, where those with fortune would live, and those with misfortune would die.
Aguinaldo was particularly cruel to his children, believing they were incapable of inheriting his legacy. Thus, he arranged unions between his children and other Binders, though only one succeeded, with his daughter giving birth to the subject before she committed suicide. Thus, without close relatives, Aguinaldo raised her himself.
The subject manifested the Palace Blasphemy as a toddler, to Aguinaldo's satisfaction. To keep her in line, he manipulated her into believing that her tulpa was a GOD living inside her, and she would be killed if she disobeyed it. The subject's abilities, though limited, were used to recruit and indoctrinate people into the cult. Inevitably, this caught the attention of CAIN, who executed Aguinaldo when the subject was seventeen. She was subsequently recruited by CAIN and underwent minor reprogramming.
Since then, the subject has shown capability as an Exorcist.

DISCOVERY ENTRY, AGE 17

[…]
After the corpses were destroyed, a girl was discovered behind the altar. She did not fight, run, or hide; the ceremonial robes and chains she was wearing limited her movement.
Upon questioning, she identified herself as Maria Telesfora Aguinaldo, granddaughter of Augustus. When she learned of her future circumstances, which the exorcists described as being taken into CAIN’s custody and her Blasphemy trained, she did not question it.
Instead, she smiled. Can you stop the God inside my head from speaking?
The exorcists did not reply, nor did the untouchables.
